Design of Artificial Tubular Protein Structures in 3D Hexagonal Prism Lattice Under HP Model

The inverse protein folding problem is that of designing an amino acid sequence which has a prescribed native protein fold. This problem arises in drug design where a particular structure is necessary to ensure proper protein-protein interactions. In this paper, we show that in the HP model of Dill on the 3D (hexagonal prism) lattice it is possible to solve this problem for a class of structures (tubular structures). We also show that the proteins for the simplest (but arbitrary large) members of our class of structures (consisting of one or two tubes) are stable, i.e., fold uniquely into the desired tubular structure.
